Erasmus+/eTwinning at GSS

Geschwister-Scholl-Realschule is one of four NRW official European schools in Gütersloh since 2015. Our mission is to collaborate, communicate and develop projects with schools throughout Europe.

Erasmus+ has taken place at our school since 2017 and is well established. Now, the digital age is here and there is a platform to help us excel at our projects since the school year 2020/2021. Let’s introduce: eTwinning. eTwinning is a platform developed by the European Union to help this mission succeed in the digital age and increase collaboration between students and staff throughout the EU. eTwinning makes it possible for schools to safely share data, increase communication and produce products together with much greater ease and speed. On the eTwinning platform we are able to go beyond Erasmus+ and initiate and implement new projects with many different schools and groups, increasing our ability to spread the ideals of the European community while improving students’ English, social, cultural and digital skills. Through this exchange, we want to establish – perhaps even long-term – European contacts. There are several functions available on eTwinning: eMail, live chats and our favourite, TwinSpace. In TwinSpace, students and teachers are able to share posts, private emails with no attachments, photos, videos, audios and much more. TwinSpace is secured through a password and only authorised students and staff of the special project have access to this project’s TwinSpace only. It is an educational “social media“ platform without advertising or fake news.

The Erasmus+/eTwinning-team at Geschwister-Scholl-Schule works for realising these opportunities to our students. The team is made up of teachers from all grades and subjects in order to guarantee a high level of quality in all aspects of project implementation.

If you have any questions, or are interested in participating please contact us.

New Project – #MyVoiceMatters: Digital Democracy for Young Citizens

We are very pleased to have received the Erasmus+ Quality Seal 2025 for our H.E.R.O.s Project 2023-1-DE03-KA121-SCH-000131702 and look forward to this new project, which promises to be just as interesting and important for increasing democratic awareness and the power of community building for a good cause.

Project Overview: #MyVoiceMatters: Digital Democracy for Young Citizens

Project Number: Grant Agreement No.: 2024-1-DE03-KA121-SCH-000199386

Partner Schools:

  • Geschwister-Scholl-Schule, Gütersloh (Germany)
  • IES Figueras Pacheco, Alicante (Spain)

Project Focus: The project focuses on active participation in school life and the importance of student council representation. Students will explore what concrete changes the student council can achieve and how important engagement in daily school life is.

Exchange of Best Practices:

From Gütersloh: We will share our expertise in successful school programs such as School First Responders, Help Stars, Student Council (SV), and Sports Helpers

From Alicante: Our partner school will share experiences with Punto Violeta (raising awareness about domestic violence against women), conducting school elections, and innovative solutions for maintaining school bathrooms – a serious concern for our school and all schools in North Rhine-Westphalia

Digital Collaboration: Prior to the mobility in March, students will work together via eTwinning to develop digital skills and complete a significant portion of the collaboration and communication before the face-to-face meeting. As a creative element, participants will compose a rap together using AI, which they will then perform together in March.

Student Mobility: An exchange with 20-25 students and accompanying workshops will take place in March 2026. We are very excited about this collaborative work!

Project H.E.R.O 2023-2025

H.E.R.O. – Help everyone, reach out! is the name of our new Erasmus+/eTwinning project (project number: 2023-1-DE03-KA121-SCH-000131702). Students from Spain, Denmark, Latvia and Germany are working together on this. The digital platform eTwinning-TwinSpace serves as the basis for this, on which they can exchange content. To do this, they use the English language, which is taught in all four countries.

The students are an important part of society. Therefore, in this project, they learn how they can actively participate in society. Their skills in organizing and participating in volunteer activities are trained. The topics of democratization and digitalization also play an important role. Here are a few examples:

Organizing and participating in volunteer activities using the app VoluMaphttps://www.volumap.de/

Collaboration with tersloh tatkräftig e. V.https://www.guetersloh-tatkraeftig.de/

Packing presents for Children in Needat the GSS

Getting to know the shop Weltladen Güterslohhttps://weltlaeden.de/guetersloh/

Activity in the Gütersloher Suppenküche e. V.https://www.gt-suppenkueche.de/

Building insect hotels in collaboration with the Association for Nature and Environmental Protection in the Gütersloh District e. V.” https://www.gnu-gt.de/

Writing articles for the school homepage and take suitable photos for them: Recognize fakenews when doing internet research and follow netiquette when communicating digitally
